KUZUSHI

 
  From a right natural posture (migi shizentai), Uke tries a waist technique such as Hane Goshi or O Goshi. To keep your balance against Uke's technique, lean back slightly and lower your hips as Uke lowers his.  
     
 

TSUKURI

 
  As you lower your hips, encircle Uke’s waist from behind with both arms. Holding Uke closely to you, straighten your knees and bend your body backwards. Done properly, using the power of your legs, you will be able to swing Uke upward and off the mat. (You may use either knee to assist your arms when you lift). When Uke reaches the peak of your lift, move the lower half of your body backwards out of his way, and bend forward to push the top half of Uke’s body towards the mat before he can get his feet down first.  
     
 

KAKE

 
  Proper drive with the legs ensures that Uke gains enough clearance so that you are able to move your hips out from under him as you execute the throw. Make sure to regain a grasp of Uke's gi before he hits the mat to prevent him from turning in the air and confirming to the Referee that you are in control. Uke falls forcefully onto his back directly in front to you.
