KUZUSHI

From a right natural posture (migi shizentai), lightly encourage Uke to advance his right foot and then his left. As his left foot advances, break Uke’s balance to straight down to his front and then quickly to his left rear corner (hidari ushiro sumi). The snapping action of down forward\lifting back will cause Uke to stand nearly straight up rock back slightly on his heels.

TSUKURI

As Uke's torso rises, take a wide step with your right foot around to Uke’s left side and place your foot on the mat to the rear of both of Uke’s feet. (You should now be standing almost side-by-side.)

As you make the initial step with your right foot, release your grip of Uke's uwagi. Your right hand should shoot across the front of Uke's thighs and around the outside so that it contacts the back of Uke's knee to prevent Uke from stepping away while your left hand is placed behind Uke's left thigh. Both hands are encircling from the outside.

As your grip is now in place, you and Uke should be facing the same direction with your right ribs and armpit stretched across Uke's belt. Make sure to squat as you make the movements thereby lowering your center of gravity below that of Uke's.   Your right leg should be behind Uke and between both feet.

KAKE

With a 'scooping' action of your hands, pull Uke's leg out from under him while driving Uke's torso to his Ma Ushiro with your right ribs and armpit. Your right leg is key in helping you to remove Uke's legs from the mat. When Uke lands, he will be behind you on the mat and you should be holding both of Uke's outstretched legs.
