From a right natural posture (migi shizentai), using
a strong tsurikomi, break Uke’s balance to his right front corner (migi mae
sumi). In order to save his balance Uke may step forward on his right
foot and plan to follow with his left. As the weight of his body is
about to settle on his right foot – and Uke prepares to advance his left
– this is the proper moment to apply Soto Makikomi as Uke is committed
to his action. |

Quickly turn your body to your left bringing your
left foot to your rear, and extending your right leg along the outside
edge of Uke’s right foot. The toes and ball of your foot should be on
the mat with your position resembling that of a sprinter preparing to
take off. (Placement is also similar to Tai Otoshi, but placing your leg
along side of Uke’s right leg and not across the front.)
Simultaneously let go your right-hand grip on Uke’s lapel and swing your
arm high over Uke's outstretch right arm. It is critical that your
left hand pull Uke's right sleeve strongly across your chest as you turn
to your left allowing Uke no space between you. As your right arm
swings, it will cause Uke to be wrapped tightly around your right side
causing Uke to become pinned head, right shoulder or right arm under
your right arm. |

As your wrapping motion tightens and Uke is pulled
closer to you, straighten out your right leg (which has been bent this
entire time) along the mat. This will pull Uke's feet off of the mat and
onto your back. Continue your turning motion to the left landing on your
right side. Uke's right arm should be pinned below you on the mat. |
