KUZUSHI

From a left natural (hidari shizentai) posture, advance your right foot toward Uke encouraging Uke to retreat on his left foot. Make sure that you are using your hands to help motivate Uke to step as you desire. Immediately, by application of tsurikomi with both hands, break Uke’s balance towards his right rear corner (migi ushiro sumi).

TSUKURI

When his balance is broken, advance your left foot toward his right foot and using your hands, guide Uke to step back with his right foot. Stretch out your left foot and with the sole of your foot, sweep the ankle or the bottom of the shin of his right leg backwards and inwards, away from you. At the same time twist your upper body to the left and strongly pull your left hand, holding Uke’s right sleeve, towards your left hip. Your right hand, holding Uke’s left lapel, assists this movement by pushing upwards to your left shoulder.

SPECIAL NOTE: Two major differences between this and Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi.

#1 - You are sweeping the ankle while it is in the air and not blocking it while Uke's weight rests on it.

#2 - You are also placing your hip into contact with Uke to help lift Uke and affect the sweeping motion. Your left hip and leg will most certainly make contact with Uke during the execution of this technique.

KAKE

Once your right foot begins the sweeping motion towards Uke's left side, strongly steer Uke to your left so that he simply rotates in the air and falls to his left side in a circle and lands in front of you.

This technique is most successful for those that have expert timing of the sweeping action of the foot and strong Tsurikomi of the hands.
